Rentals: a New Approach
You asked, and man did we listen. Rentals have arrived. Hey everyone, it's Julia. We are happy, no, we are excited to announce the introduction of a rental program here at Audiobrary. We polled a bunch of our listeners and asked if they'd be interested in having a membership program, and everyone seemed burned out on the idea of membership.
Why?
"I just keep paying this monthly fee, and then I forget about it, and I don't use it, and I don't want to have that kind of commitment." Which, we completely understand. But the one thing that a membership gives you is the ability to try things that you might be curious about or might not normally try. But that involves things like points and credits and listening times and... complications.
Our Solution
Give you the opportunity to rent our projects. This will allow you to listen to books you aren't sure you'd buy, but might be curious about non-the-less.
Die hard romance fan who came to Audiobrary because of Casanova LLC, but are now curious about Thoreau's God? With the rental program, you can give it a try. And the rental will only cost about 1/3 of the purchase price.
So, for example, a $25 book will rent for $8, an $8 book will rent for $3, and so on. The pricing will be clearly marked on the product page. Also, a rental period will be for seven full days.
How Does it Work?
Now, because this concept is new to audiobooks, let me explain how it works on the Audiobrary site.
- First, when you go to the product page of a specific audiobook, you will now see three buttons — Purchase, Send as Gift, and Rental. If you want to rent the audiobook, simply click the rental button and you will automatically be taken to the purchase page where you will make the rental purchase. It's really that simple.
- Second, once the purchase is made, the audiobook will automatically populate your app. You will also get a welcome email stating that this is a rental and that you will have a week to listen to it. Rent one book or as many as you want, whenever you want. The rental period for each audio begins when you make the purchase for that specific book.
- Third, on day five of your rental, you will receive another email giving you two new options (and a reminder that your rental period is coming to an end). The first option will allow you to re-rent the book for another week at the same rental price (the second week won't begin until the first week has been completed). The second option will give you the ability to purchase the book. Let's say you found a new love, and you want it permanently on your Audiobrary shelf to refer back to... you will automatically get a 25% discount at checkout. We want to give you back most of your first week's rental if you choose the purchase option.
Exceptions
The last thing to know about this program is that there will be some audiobooks that we can't rent. These are the books that come through other publishers.
Because Audiobrary is both a publisher and direct-to-consumer outlet, we can do as we wish with our titles, but as we continue to grow the retailer side of Audiobrary, we will have other publisher's books (narrated by Julia and other top tier narrators) on the platform too, and those we will only be able to sell à la carte (we'll keep working on them to change that).
This unfortunately includes my first two books My Oxford Year and Thank You for Listening because I don't own them, HarperCollins does. So if you don't see a rental button on a specific product page, it means it can only be purchased.
The Bottom Line
We wanted to give you as many options as possible and, as you well know, both author and narrator will still benefit so much more when you purchase 'or rent' on Audiobrary.
Well, that's it. We sincerely hope you will take advantage of this new feature, and will continue to support our growing audio library.
