About
Julia Whelan recording

Hi! I’m Julia Whelan and this is Audiobrary, a platform devoted exclusively to human storytelling.

I’ve been an award-winning audiobook narrator for 15+ years and have recorded over 600 books (and at least as many pieces of long-form journalism). I also happen to be an internationally bestselling author of the critical darlings My Oxford Year, Thank You For Listening, and Casanova LLC.

As such, I believe in the power of the written word, the spoken word, and the magic that happens when they come together. And I’m not alone. Devout listeners have turned audiobooks into a multi-billion dollar industry. Sadly, however, that money has not trickled down to the people whose talents have built the industry.

This is what Audiobrary is endeavoring to change. When you purchase through Audiobrary, you are supporting the people who make the art, not the corporations that merely distribute it.

How? Well, check out our About page for more info. And don't miss our Press page for the latest media coverage. In the meantime, rest assured that every Audiobrary production was written by humans, performed by humans, and cleaned up by humans (because let’s face it, humans aren’t perfect, which is exactly what makes us interesting).

Casanova LLC was nominated for an Audie this year and didn't win. BUT guess who DID win for Best Fiction Narrator of 2025...

"The sure touch of Golden Voice narrator Julia Whelan transforms Kristin Hannah’s absorbing novel about Vietnam War combat nurses into an addictive listen. An intimate portrait and a sprawling account of a searing time, the story focuses on 20-year-old Frances McGrath, who, in 1965, impetuously chooses the Army Nurse Corps over cotillions and marriage. Whelan brings believable characterizations and evocative pacing to her performance of Frankie’s experiences—whether in a bloody MASH operating room or talking truth with her best nursing friends, a Black woman from Georgia and a white woman from Virginia. As the novel interweaves historical research with the characters’ Vietnam and postwar lives, Whelan’s intensity and warmth help listeners empathize with the personal and understand the big picture."
